Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Cairo University in Egypt examined the effects of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) formulas and supplementation on the growth and nutritional status of infants with biliary atresia (BA) who underwent the Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE) operation. The study found that nutritional counseling using MCT-containing formulas and supplementation improved the nutritional status and growth of the patients. Additionally, the study revealed low levels of vitamin D in the patients, which significantly increased after the intervention. The researchers concluded that dietary intervention and MCT and micronutrient supplementation can improve the nutritional status of children with BA following KPE. [Extracted from the article]
