A recent study conducted at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital in China investigated the expression and prognostic value of Aurora kinase A (AURKA) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). The researchers collected surgical specimens and clinical data from 137 MTC patients and found that high expression of AURKA combined with low numbers of TILs was an independent prognostic factor for biochemical recurrence and recurrence-free survival. The combination of AURKA and TILs improved the prognostic value for MTC recurrence. The study concluded that the combination of AURKA and TILs could serve as a novel independent prognostic marker for MTC, accurately predicting incurable disease recurrence.
