Abstract

New research suggests that daily time spent in a warm environment, such as a sauna, may help older adults, particularly women, combat age-related obesity and insulin resistance. The study, conducted with mice, found that older female mice who received a daily 30-minute heat treatment gained less weight and showed improved insulin use. The researchers identified the biological processes responsible for these effects and suggest that heat therapy could be a non-invasive solution for managing weight gain and insulin resistance associated with menopause. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal duration and intensity of heat exposure for health benefits and to confirm its safety and effectiveness across diverse populations.
