Abstract

A new report discusses research on complement C3b inactivator proteins and their role in angiogenesis, the process of forming new capillaries from existing blood vessels. The study focuses on complement factor H (CFH), a plasma protein that inhibits the alternative pathway of the complement system. Dysfunction of CFH can lead to pro-angiogenic events and has been associated with age-related macular degeneration. The review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of CFH's anti-angiogenic effects and discusses the therapeutic potential of recombinant CFH protein in angiogenesis-related diseases.
