Abstract

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy investigated whether faculty members with dual degrees in pharmacy practice have higher publication productivity compared to those with a single degree. The study found that dual degree faculty had significantly increased publication productivity and quality. However, the study raises questions about the distinction between scholarship and research, the impact of publication productivity on Pharmacy Practice departments, and the value of different dual degree combinations. The results suggest that dual degree faculty may be associated with productive research, but it is unclear if the dual degree itself is a cause or effect of quality institutional science. The findings prompt further exploration by Pharmacy Practice departments to determine the importance of dual degree faculty in their specific contexts. [Extracted from the article]
