Abstract
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is considering a review of the fees it charges its largest borrowers due to concerns that the costs are becoming unreasonable. The IMF board, consisting of a management official and representatives from 190 countries, will discuss options to give nations a break on surcharges. The fees apply to countries that borrow more than their allotted share or take longer to repay loans. The fees have added billions of dollars in extra costs for countries already facing economic challenges. The meeting will address initial considerations for a review of the fees, but no final decision is expected this week. [Extracted from the article]
