Abstract

A recent qualitative study conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts explored the experiences of high-risk pregnant and postpartum individuals in accessing postpartum care and primary care after delivery. The study found that participants universally identified difficulty accessing primary care in the postpartum period, with barriers including lack of knowledge and supportive environments, insufficient preparation, inadequate prenatal counseling, and lack of standardized care transitions. The research concluded that future interventions should include prenatal education on the benefits of primary care follow-up, structured postpartum planning, and improvements in obstetric and primary care provider communication.
