Abstract
- A study conducted by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory explores the use of differential extraction thresholds to determine the presence of spermatozoa (sperm) in forensic casework samples. The research aims to address the challenge of obtaining positive serological data in cases involving difficult samples such as laundered items or low-level DNA samples. The study found that samples with at least 200 picograms of male DNA and at least 10% of the total male DNA in the sperm-enriched fraction could be reported as positive for the presence of sperm. However, serological testing may still be necessary to minimize false negative results. [Extracted from the article]
