Abstract

This article discusses the importance of auxiliary assumptions when applying probability theory. It argues that probability theory is agnostic to where probability measures come from and that in order to apply probability theory, one must make auxiliary assumptions regarding the assignment and interpretation of probability. The article suggests that these assumptions can lead to different conclusions that are mathematically and philosophically coherent. It further states that behavioral science often does not take these assumptions into consideration, which can hinder progress in the field. The article emphasizes the need for research on these assumptions to advance behavioral science. [Extracted from the article]
