Abstract

A recent report from University College London (UCL) discusses the development of an evidence-informed package of essential health services for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Liberia. The package was designed based on factors such as disease burden, cost-effectiveness, financial risk, equity, budget impact, and feasibility of implementation. The final package focuses on primary healthcare and includes 78 publicly financed interventions and 50 interventions funded through cost-sharing. The estimated cost to the government is $12.28 per capita, with the potential to avert 1.2 million DALYs. The report emphasizes the importance of priority setting, national leadership, stakeholder engagement, affordability, and addressing health system gaps for successful implementation. However, challenges to implementation still exist and require further action by the government. [Extracted from the article]
