Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University Hospital of Lyon in France has revealed new findings about pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and myoepithelioma (ME), which are benign salivary gland tumors. The study found that recurrent gene fusions are common in these tumors, particularly in cases where chromosomal rearrangement is identified in the pleomorphic adenoma gene 1 (PLAG1) gene. The researchers also discovered a unique subset of PA/ME characterized by pure oncocytic morphology and a recurrent ZBTB47-AS1::PLAG1 fusion. Further research is needed to better understand this variant of PA/ME and the nature of oncocytic cells in these tumors. [Extracted from the article]
