Abstract

The article presents information on an announcement made by representative Cornelius Gallagher, chairman of the Special House Subcommittee on privacy issue. He opposed the establishment of a data bank within the United Planning Organization (UPO), the Washington (D.C.) anti-poverty agency. The U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare is believed to have funded the UPO project contingent upon the creation of such a compilation of personal information. Gallagher said he would launch an investigation to determine if any Federal funding was being used in local communities to establish data centers.
