Abstract
- Central Asian nations, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, have taken the lead in repatriating and reintegrating their citizens who traveled to Iraq and Syria to support extremist organizations. These individuals, primarily women and children, face complex challenges in terms of humanitarian aid, security, and human rights. Central Asian countries have established their own programs to rehabilitate and support the peaceful reintegration of returnees. Uzbekistan, in particular, has been proactive in repatriating its citizens and providing comprehensive support for their reintegration, including access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. The recent inauguration of the Regional Expert Council, supported by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, represents a significant step forward in enforcing global and regional anti-terrorism measures and strengthening regional security.
