Abstract

The article discusses the trend of sports megadevelopments, such as stadium complexes, and their impact on surrounding communities. It highlights examples of these developments, including the HKS-designed SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Las Vegas' proposed baseball stadium, and the Tampa Bay Rays' Populous-designed stadium. The article argues that despite promises of economic benefits and urban revitalization, research consistently shows that public investment in stadiums does not generate significant positive effects on local economies. It also raises concerns about the displacement of residents and the strain on low-income communities caused by rising property values and real estate speculation. The article concludes that these developments often prioritize consumption and fail to provide substantial public benefits. [Extracted from the article]
