Abstract

The article discusses an exhibition at The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, called "Visualizing Place: Maps from The Bancroft Library." The exhibition aimed to redefine and expand the understanding of cartographic history by showcasing a wide variety of maps, including the 1814 map of the Lewis and Clark expedition and Antonio García Cuba's Atlas pintoresco. The section on Mexico City, titled "CDMX: City of Barrios," featured maps that contrasted the mapmakers' representations of the city with those reinterpreting it from a different perspective. The exhibition also included indigenous maps of Mexico City and maps that depicted the city within the larger context of the Valley of Mexico. The article highlights the importance of considering different perspectives and including diverse voices in mapmaking. [Extracted from the article]
