Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh examined the role of brain computed tomography (CT) scans in patients who experienced in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). The study found that IHCA patients were less likely to undergo post-arrest brain CT scans compared to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. The results also showed that severe cerebral edema was less common in IHCA patients, but mild-to-moderate or severe edema still occurred in one in three patients after IHCA. The study concluded that neurological causes of arrest were rarely discovered through CT scans in IHCA patients. [Extracted from the article]
