Abstract

A recent study conducted at Shigatse People's Hospital Intensive Care Unit in the Tibetan region examined the incidence and predictive factors associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in multiple trauma patients residing in high-altitude areas. The study included 168 patients and found that the incidence of ARDS among multiple trauma patients in the high-altitude area was 37.5%, with a hospital mortality rate of 16.1%. Injury Severity Score (ISS) and thoracic injuries were identified as significant predictors for ARDS, and a novel predictive risk score combining these factors demonstrated improved predictive ability. The findings of this study have the potential to enhance clinicians' ability to assess the risk of ARDS and prevent its onset. [Extracted from the article]
