Abstract

A recent study conducted in Copenhagen, Denmark explored the associations between the use of different medications for bipolar disorder and the risk of physical disorders. The study found that sustained use of lithium, lamotrigine, and valproate did not significantly increase the risk of developing physical disorders, except for myxedema, which may be due to detection bias. The research, which used real-world observational register-based data, concluded that lithium is generally safe in terms of physical health. This study provides valuable insights for individuals with bipolar disorder and their healthcare providers when considering medication options. [Extracted from the article]
