Abstract

A recent report from Chiang Mai University in Thailand discusses the use of atmospheric nonthermal plasma (ANTP) in biomedicine, particularly in treating skin diseases. The study aimed to investigate the adverse effects of ANTP on genetic substances in murine fibroblast cells. The researchers found that exposure to ANTP led to reduced cell viability and proliferation, increased reactive species in the cells, and significant DNA damage. While ANTP was not classified as a mutagen in the Ames test, the study highlights the genotoxic and mutagenic effects of ANTP and emphasizes the need for cautious selection of plasma intensity to avoid adverse side effects.
