Abstract

A randomized clinical trial conducted at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, explored the effectiveness of a mobile mindfulness intervention for survivors of critical illness. The study aimed to determine the optimal method for delivering a mindfulness intervention via a mobile app. The trial involved 247 participants who were randomized into eight different groups based on intervention components such as intervention introduction method, mindfulness meditation dose, and management of increasing symptoms. The results showed that a mindfulness intervention that included an app-based introduction, twice-daily guided meditation, and app-based management of increasing depression symptoms was optimal in reducing psychological distress symptoms, promoting adherence, and demonstrating feasibility.
