Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that a man in Mexico died from a strain of bird flu called H5N2, which has never been found in humans before. It is unclear how the man became infected, although H5N2 has been found in poultry in Mexico. This strain is different from the H5N1 strain that has infected dairy cow herds in the US. Other bird flu varieties have caused deaths in previous years, including an outbreak of H5N6 in China in 2021. The risk to people in Mexico is currently low, and no further human cases have been discovered. [Extracted from the article]
