Abstract

ABB, a Swedish-Swiss technology company, has been chosen by Red Electrica, a subsidiary of Spanish TSO Redeia, to supply synchronous condensers for the electricity grid in the Canary and Balearic Islands. This is part of Red Electrica's Network Development Plan to increase the share of renewables in the Spanish generation mix to 67%. ABB will deploy three synchronous condensers in the Canary Islands and one in the Balearic Islands. These condensers are important for stabilizing the grid when renewable energy loads fluctuate. Red Electrica is also working on other projects in the Canary Islands, including a pumped storage hydropower plant and a subsea cable. [Extracted from the article]
