Researchers from the University Hospital Modena have conducted a study on patients with acute exacerbation of lung fibrosis with usual interstitial pneumonia (EUIP) pattern. The study aimed to develop a mathematical model for lung deformation during mechanical ventilation (MV) in these patients. The results showed that patients with EUIP have different respiratory mechanics, stress-strain curves, and specific elastance compared to patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and healthy subjects.
