Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from the College of Charleston explored the relationship between body image and mental well-being among Black American and Black immigrant women attending predominantly white universities. The study found that both groups had a positive association between body image and indicators of self-esteem and psychological well-being, as well as a negative association between body image and mental health issues such as social anxiety and depression. However, Black American women had a stronger association between their sense of self and self-esteem and psychological well-being compared to Black immigrant women. These findings contribute to the understanding of the impact of body image on the mental health of Black college-aged women. [Extracted from the article]
