Abstract
- A new report from researchers at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, examines the quality of colonoscopies performed by resident physicians in colorectal surgery. The study compared the performance of resident physicians with their preceptors in terms of adenoma detection rate, cecal intubation rate, examination time, and bowel preparation quality. The research found that resident physicians were able to achieve adequate results in these areas, indicating that their training enables them to perform colonoscopies within the limits proposed by the literature. This study highlights the importance of continuous evaluation of colonoscopy quality and the potential for early diagnosis and polyp resection in colorectal cancer screening.
