Abstract

A new report presents fresh data on ovarian cancer, focusing on the need for an objective marker to assess postoperative residual disease. The study evaluated circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a predictive marker for minimum residual disease (MRD) after primary debulking surgery. The researchers used whole genome sequencing to identify structural variants, single nucleotide variants, and indels in tumor tissue, and developed personalized multiplex digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR) fingerprint assays. The study found that ctDNA levels differed based on postoperative tumor residuals, suggesting that this personalized approach could be used for postoperative MRD evaluation in patients with advanced ovarian cancer.
