Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the Vellore Institute of Technology in India examined the association between exposure to indoor air pollution and unhealthy symptoms among middle-aged and older adults in India. The study found that the use of solid cooking fuels and smoking inside the house were associated with higher odds of experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, wheezing, cough, and headache. On the other hand, participants exposed to incense use had lower odds of experiencing shortness of breath, headache, and cough. The researchers suggest the development of programs to combat indoor air pollution and promote clean fuel usage to improve population health, particularly in rural areas.
