Abstract

Travis Stewart, also known as Machinedrum, is an American electronic producer who has been pushing the boundaries of drum & bass for over 20 years. His latest album, 3FOR82, draws inspiration from a trip to Joshua Tree National Park, where he rediscovered old music from his teenage years. The album combines elements of rave culture and electronic music, reflecting Stewart's past, present, and future self. In creating the album, he used an outdated music software called Impulse Tracker, running it through an emulator called DOSbox to access samples. Stewart also documented the music-making process using a VHS camcorder and collaborated with various vocalists to create a cohesive storyline with the lyrics. While he acknowledges the potential threats of AI in music production, he believes that certain aspects of music creation are uniquely human and cannot be replaced by AI.
