Abstract

The article discusses the increase in size and capabilities of ro-pax ferries over the past 60 years. Despite their larger size, these ferries are still able to navigate narrow harbors and operate in all weather conditions. The industry's desire for larger vessels with more capacity and better facilities has driven the development of technical advancements in ship outfitting and equipment. These advancements include access equipment, stern access ramps, bow thrusters, variable pitch propellers, improved bridge controls, closed-circuit TV sensors, and azimuthing propellers. These developments have allowed for the safe and precise handling of large ferries, even in extreme weather conditions. [Extracted from the article]
