Abstract
- A new report from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts explores how the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning have affected teachers' relationships with students. The study, based on interviews with 33 teachers and three instructional coaches in an urban district, found that the changes in instructional conditions during the pandemic significantly limited teachers' ability to connect with students and negatively impacted their sense of success and satisfaction. Many teachers questioned their careers and some left their positions. The research highlights the need for districts to address the relational losses experienced by teachers and students and emphasizes the contextual nature of teacher-student relationships.
