Abstract

A recent study conducted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) investigated the associations between tubal ligation, hysterectomy, and hormone levels in postmenopausal women. The study found that tubal ligation did not have an impact on hormone levels, but women who had undergone hysterectomy had lower levels of testosterone and higher levels of certain estrogen metabolites. These findings suggest that prior hysterectomy may have implications for hormone-related disease risks. The study was published in the journal Cancer Causes & Control and was supported by the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Clinical Coordinating Center. [Extracted from the article]
