Abstract
- A recent study conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Tamil Nadu, India, focused on assessing the extent of drug wastage and associated costs in the disposal of unused intravenous agents in operating theaters. The study found that the maximum drug wastage occurred with atropine, followed by ephedrine, propofol, phenylephrine, atracurium, dexmedetomidine, fentanyl, vecuronium, and morphine. The cost analysis revealed that 36.3% of the total loaded drugs were wasted, with propofol being the most costly. The study emphasizes the importance of proactive management of drug wastage and disposal costs in healthcare settings to optimize resource utilization and improve patient outcomes.
