Abstract

A new report from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran discusses the development of a one-month sustained-release formulation of aripiprazole, a medication used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The researchers used a lipid liquid crystal (LLC) formulation with different solvents and derivatives to determine the best formulation for slow and controlled release of the drug. The study found that the formulation containing sorbitan monooleate (SMO) had the highest release of aripiprazole over the 30-day period and was safe without causing damage to vital organs. This research provides a potential option for developing an extended-release formulation of aripiprazole. [Extracted from the article]
