Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, focused on the stability and uniformity of cannabis clones used for medicinal purposes. The researchers developed a novel method called Comparative Restriction Enzyme Analysis of Methylation (CREAM) to assess DNA methylation patterns in a population of 78 cannabis clones maintained in tissue culture. The study found that DNA methylation patterns were preserved across subcultures within the clonal population, allowing for the distinction between different subsets of clonal lines. This research contributes to our understanding of epigenetic variability within clonal lines and is crucial for ensuring the consistency and reliability of medicinal cannabis products. The CREAM method also offers a valuable tool for studying epigenetic variation in other plant species. [Extracted from the article]
