Abstract

A recent study conducted at Bern University Hospital in Switzerland explored the role of different androgen pathways in adrenarche, a normal developmental event in mid-childhood characterized by increased adrenal androgen secretion. The study involved a longitudinal analysis of children aged 6-8 years, followed up at ages 8-10 and 14-16 years. The researchers found that the classic and 11-oxy androgen pathways were more active in children experiencing adrenarche, and certain steroid ratios were better classifiers for adrenarche than individual steroids. The study suggests that comprehensive steroid profiling could help identify novel biomarkers for adrenarche and premature adrenarche. [Extracted from the article]
