Abstract
- A study conducted at Great Ormond St. Hospital for Sick Children in London, United Kingdom, explored the effect of excessive gas to blood ratios in an ECMO oxygenator. The researchers found that increasing the gas to blood flow rate above the manufacturer's stated maximum ratio did not significantly increase gas phase pressures or cause oxygenator membrane rupture. Additionally, there were no associations between gas flow rates and the production of gaseous microemboli. This research provides valuable insights into the use of oxygenators for pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. [Extracted from the article]
