Abstract

Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea have caused a significant decline in container shipping, according to US intelligence officials. Between December and February, container shipping through the area decreased by 90%. These attacks have affected at least 65 countries and forced major energy and shipping companies to change their routes, resulting in increased fuel costs. The US and the UK have launched airstrikes on the Houthis in an attempt to stop their attacks, but the economic impact continues to grow. The attacks have also caused delays in humanitarian relief efforts for Sudan and Yemen. [Extracted from the article]
