Abstract

Zach Hubbard, a fifth-generation logger, has made improvements to his family's logging operations in West Virginia's Appalachian Mountain range by adding a winch-assisted or tethered component. This includes upgrading equipment and implementing a cable winch tethering head to increase production and improve safety on steep terrain. Despite initial reservations, Zach's parents have been convinced of the success of this technique. The article also discusses the importance of succession planning and highlights the successful transition of the Hubbard family's logging business to the next generation. Additionally, the article mentions the challenges of finding reliable labor in the industry, attributing it to the opioid crisis and drug addiction. [Extracted from the article]
