Abstract

The article discusses the environmental impact of hydroelectric dams on river ecosystems. While hydro power is considered a cleaner energy source than fossil fuels, dams can have negative effects on river ecosystems, such as disrupting fish migration routes and contributing to climate change. Indigenous communities, who are historically dependent on rivers, are leading efforts to find solutions to minimize the environmental damage caused by dams. Some potential solutions include the installation of fish-friendly turbines and the inclusion of fishways to allow fish to bypass dams. [Extracted from the article]
