- Virginia Sisiopiku, a professor of engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been awarded the 2024 Excellence in Transportation Engineering Education Award by the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Dr. Sisiopiku has been teaching transportation engineering at the university for over 20 years and is recognized for her dedication to educating future leaders in the field. Her research interests include traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, and sustainable transportation. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago.
