Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom has explored the use of silver in wound care. While silver is effective at controlling the growth of bacteria commonly found in wounds, it can also be cytotoxic and hinder the healing process. The researchers developed a composite hydrogel that can release silver on demand when exposed to a cold atmospheric plasma jet. The released silver was found to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and reduce the viability of biofilms. This research provides new insights into wound infection control.
