Abstract
- Researchers at Abo Akademi University in Turku, Finland have conducted a study on prostate cancer (PCa) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), two prevalent conditions affecting a significant portion of the male population. The study explores the effectiveness of 1H NMR urine metabolomics as a non-invasive diagnostic alternative to traditional methods such as digital rectal examination (DRE) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests. The researchers found that 1H NMR urine metabolomics was able to distinguish between PCa and BPH, as well as differentiate various PCa grades. The study also identified potential biomarkers for these conditions. This research provides valuable insights into early detection and patient-specific treatment strategies for PCa and BPH.
