Abstract

A recent study conducted by the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre examined the prevalence of ACL graft rupture and contralateral ACL rupture in Australian female netball players after ACL reconstruction. The study found that ACL graft rupture occurred in 4% of patients, while contralateral ACL rupture occurred in 10% of patients at 7 years postoperatively. Adolescents were found to have a higher risk of ACL graft rupture and contralateral ACL rupture compared to adults. The study also found that repeat ACL injuries were more common in adolescents and those who returned to cutting and pivoting sports. Overall, ACL reconstruction was deemed a suitable option for female netball players with low long-term rates of graft rupture. [Extracted from the article]
