Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from the National University of Cordoba in Argentina focuses on the detection of Hepatitis A virus (HAV) in human plasma pools used for the manufacture of medicinal products. HAV is primarily transmitted through the fecal-oral route but can also be transmitted through blood-derived products. The researchers developed an in-house multiplex reverse-transcription real-time PCR (RT-PCR) assay to detect HAV RNA in plasma pools. The assay demonstrated good sensitivity, specificity, and robustness, and its implementation in the production process of plasma-derived products is expected to enhance their safety.
