Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom explored the nature of social anxiety and experiences of therapy in autistic individuals. The study found that social anxiety in autistic individuals is influenced by distinct factors related to their experiences in the social world. Many participants reported negative experiences in therapy, feeling that therapists did not understand their social fears or adapt the therapy process to their individual needs. The study proposes a "distinct" model of social anxiety specific to autistic individuals and provides practical recommendations for therapists working with this population.
