Abstract

A recent study conducted by Kyushu University in Japan compared the outcomes of pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) centers in metropolitan and regional areas. The study analyzed the clinical outcomes of 155 patients aged 15 and under who received ECMO between 2010 and 2019. The survival rates at ICU discharge were similar between the two areas, but regional centers had a higher frequency of deterioration in Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category (PCPC) scores. The study concluded that while survival rates were comparable, there is a need to improve neurological outcomes, particularly in patients with acute myocarditis. [Extracted from the article]
