Abstract

A recent study conducted at Albany Medical Center in New York explored the rare occurrence of stroke in pediatric patients caused by a cardiac myxoma thromboembolism. The study found that there is a lack of evidence-based guidelines for managing pediatric strokes due to their low incidence and limited clinical trials. The researchers performed a systematic review and identified 19 reported cases of pediatric myxoma causing stroke, with 36.8% of patients between the ages of 4 and 14 undergoing neurosurgery. The study provides insight into the safe use of mechanical thrombectomy as a treatment for pediatric strokes caused by thromboembolism. [Extracted from the article]
