Abstract

A recent study conducted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil compared the effectiveness and safety of two common routes of administration for premedication in pediatric patients: oral midazolam and intranasal dexmedetomidine. The study found that there was no difference in satisfactory induction or mask acceptance between the two medications. However, dexmedetomidine was associated with a higher incidence of satisfactory separation from parents and a lower incidence of emergence agitation. The researchers concluded that intranasal dexmedetomidine may be a safe and effective alternative to oral midazolam for premedication in pediatric patients. [Extracted from the article]
