Abstract
- A preprint abstract from biorxiv.org discusses the effectiveness of antibiotics against intracellular Staphylococcus aureus infections in osteocytes. The study found that only rifampicin, levofloxacin, and linezolid significantly reduced the number of intracellular bacteria in an acute infection model. However, no treatment was able to reduce the quantity of bacterial mRNA or prevent non-culturable bacteria from returning to a culturable state. These findings suggest that new therapeutic approaches are needed to effectively treat intracellular S. aureus infections in osteocytes. The preprint has not yet undergone peer review.
