Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at University Hospital Son Espases in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, has validated a routine LC-HRMS method for the quantification of cortisol, cortisone, 6b-hydroxycortisol, and 18-hydroxycortisol in human urine. The study also validated a GC-MS method for the same steroids and evaluated their cross-reactivity with commercial cortisol immunoassays. The researchers found that immunoassay-based methods for urine free cortisol measurements, although frequently used, are analytically inaccurate. The validated LC-HRMS method provides a rapid and accurate tool for evaluating hypercortisolism and other disorders of glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid metabolism. [Extracted from the article]
